Fudgesikles's Blog

The fundamental question of – how??

I was lying in bed last night, rolling around waiting for sleep, when I began to wonder, just how do people blog every day? It’s like, near impossible to do! How and what can you possible write about every single day of a year that you hadn’t already covered in the last month or year prior to that?

I mean, everyone repeats their everyday routine. Work or school or being on the dole. You’re days can’t change that much on a day to day basis can it? Or am I the only one in this world who has an extremely repetitive and dull schdeule that doesnt allow for fun and excitement to creep through?

What’s most ironic about my situation is that when I had a job, I never had the time or energy to go out and enjoy life. But now that I don’t have a job, I can’t afford to go out and enjoy life.

Man my life sucksssssssssss.

And job-hunting is a real bitch.

“..how do I…how do I…Oh how do I liveeeeee~~”

The ticking time bomb

My mum was right.

How could anyone wish to be with someone with such a foul temper?

When I stop to think about it, I definitely wouldn’t sit around and take shit from a know-it-all, my-way-or-the-highway, selfish little shit like myself. It’s amazing to think that my parents have been able to deal with me for the past years. 25 years is not an easy feat. But they can rest easy now, because I have found myself a new victim to direct my full wrath at – my boyfriend Toby.

God help him.

I don’t know why he even bothers? Time and time again, my venomous words come spewing forth from my mouth, my temper flaring to breaking point, over what you ask? Over nothing at all. I can’t even tell you the reason or how or what triggered the sudden attack.

Then all too soon, my temper falls. Words are halted in mid-thought. My mind starts back peddling.

Oh you friggin genius, you’ve done it again. Good job. Well done. Just chase out all the people who care about you.

An apology seems feeble and so incredibly weak in situations like this, but apologise I still do. Of course, he doesn’t respond. So what more can I do to show my regret and my lamentation and that I’m an idiot and a fool? When an apology fails, what other means do I have to make things better?

The answer to that question has so far been an elusive little bugger.

Maybe instead of trying to seek the answer to being forgiven, I should try to look for a diffuser for my foul temper?

Afterall, who has the time and energy to waste on a girlfriend who is a living time bomb, not knowing exactly when or where she’ll blow up again?

And even as I contemplate and lament and cry silently at my foolishness, all I can hear in my head is a tick tick tick…

Chasing your tail lights

I’m taking a turn with this blog. No longer will I be writing random posts about random topics. I’ll just talk about ME from now on, so I guess…PREPARE TO BE BORED TO DEATH!!!! har-dy-har-har~

Mondays are the worst…good thing for me I’m not there today! Ho-Ho!!

Oh! I should really introduce myself properly before indulging you in the stories of my boring life.

I work fulltime at a small company on the other side of town, on casual rates. Meaning I don’t receive annual leaves, sick leaves and the worse one, or even public holiday rates!! Sucks mega balls. Anyway, takes me about 1hr to get to work and another 1hr to get back in, which is why I hate my current work. Work to me is like giving a blood donation: you go there, get an IV line stuck up you, draining you of life, energy and err…life. And I am totally not discouraging people on giving blood. I think that’s one of the best ways to help others. I donate 3-4 times a year. True story.

I only just recently realised I have morning sickness. And I don’t mean that in a pregnant-with-a-bunny sort of way either. But that waking up anywhere in between 12am-9am is TORTURE to me. I am definitely NOT a morning person. The only thing I do like about mornings is breakfast! Yum!!

So yeah, an average morning is as dull as the walls in your house, except for the days with the…pause for effect…the elusive Orange Lotus *DUH-DUNNN* (dramatic music for effect…but its still a boring story haha)

A MORNING WITH ME AND THE ELUSIVE ORANGE LOTUS

With another full week to go until the weekend, my mind and body revert to zombie-work mode. Wake up to the insistent sound of my alarm, press snooze at least 20 times before I realise, “Shiieetttt I’m late…AGAIN!” Rush to work in record time! I love driving. It’s so much fun. Too bad I’m too retarded to coordinate my arms and legs to work together, otherwise I would buy myself a manual car to race around in.  There’s one other thing that keeps me on my toes in the morning though and that’s my race with that Orange Lotus.  The Orange Lotus only appears once during the week and whenever I do see it zipping in and out of the morning rush-hour traffic, I have an uncontrollable urge to keep up and ultimately, one day, beat it. So here I am, weaving through the traffic, keeping up with the fleeing Orange Lotus. Some weeks, I am able to catch up and even overtake him! But then we get to an open stretch and KA-POW! I am left with the sound of turbo engines ringing in my ears and the fast disappearing tail lights of that yet-unreachable Orange Lotus.

One day, I’ll have him eating the tails lights of my MEGA BEAST OF A CAR!!

FYI: I drive a 1994 Honda Civic hatchback WHATASEXYBEAST!!!!!!

The End.

I need to buy a faster car dammit.

DubLi.com is WOW.

I love to shop.

And with great buys that are only a click away, I love to online shop.

Just the other day, my friend introduced me to this great new shopping site called www.DubLi.com – my, oh my.

I cannot even begin to tell you the awesomness of this site. If you like eBay, then you will most definitely like DubLi. Similar to eBay, it is an online auction shopping site, yet the difference is that it sells brand new products, so you wouldn’t have to try and wash out someone else’s sweat patch from the T-shirt you bought. In addition to this, most products come with a full manufacturer’s warranty which is sweet! But the thing I like most about DubLi is this concept of reverse auction. Even sounds impressive doesn’t it? I sure was impressed!

Reverse auction works by displaying one starting price for the item in question. All the starting prices displayed for the product are usually the cheapest price you will find on the internet for that product. The actual price is concealed until a Credit is placed, which is a form of bidding. Credits are worth 80 cents each and are to be purchased in order to participate in the sites auctions, and they act like virtual money you use whilst shopping at DubLi. With every Credit placed towards the item, the price decreases by 25 cents. So really, if there was something you really wanted, then you would want as many Credits placed towards your most wanted. When you place a Credit, the current price of the item will be displayed to you, allowing you the choice between buying it or waiting for the price to drop lower. But you have to be careful of waiting too long, otherwise someone else might snatch it from you instead.

Sounds like fun right? This unique and interesting way of shopping online had me going back for more. I know the concept might appear strange and totally foreign to people who are used to sites like eBay or just regular shopping sites, but at DubLi, you end up saving SO much money, the likes which you wouldn’t find anywhere else. The average amount you can save on items are at a regular 60% off the price of an item!! Sometimes, you can even save up to 90%! Think of the infinite possibilities ladies!!! This site is just begging our inner shopoholic to go crazy! The other great thing about the Credits is the fact that they don’t expire, so no need to bid on things you don’t really want just to use the credits up!

One downfall I found of the site is that it lacks a lot of things to buy. Gift cards and electronics are a frequent item sold on the site, but when it comes to things like clothes or fashion accessories, there isn’t much of that at all. If they could perhaps work on that one part of the site, I can guarantee a greater amount of loyal followers.

All in all, this is one MASSIVE find. I’m so glad that my friend told me this site. So now, I’m going to share it with you guys! Because you know, sharing is caring~ And since Christmas is coming up, this is the best place to look first! Be sure to check it, check it out NOW!!! :)

www.DubLi.com – A Review

As one of the largest and fastest growing e-commerce companies in the internet world, DubLi.com introduces an undeniably exciting and fun way to online shopping. The concept of reverse auctions was unheard of until DubLi.com came into the seen.

Founded in 2003 by Danish born Michael Hansen, it first opened to the European market and was used as a flea-market type shopping portal, appearing very much like the extremely successful U.S online auction site eBay.com. The DubLi shopping portal quickly became a favourite among European internet shoppers, garnering an overwhelmingly positive response, attracting more than two million customers within the initial eight months the site hit the world of cyberspace. In 2008, DubLi expanded its business enterprise to the United States, Canada, and just recently in September 2009, to Australia and New Zealand.

Although both are online auction giants, differences between ebay and DubLi are quite apparent. For one, all products sold on DubLi are brand new name brands that come with a full manufacturer’s warranty and are sent directly from DubLi’s warehouses. The other most astonishing thing about DubLi that sets it aside from auction sites like eBay is its concept of reverse auction. This is accomplished by presenting one starting price of the item in question. The actual price is concealed until you place a Credit, which you must pay for in order to participate in the auctions, with each credit valuing at 80 cents. Every time someone places a Credit towards the item, the price decreases by 25 cents and the current price of the item will be displayed to you, allowing you the choice of purchasing the product for the price shown, or choosing to wait for the price to drop further. Another up side is that these Credits never expire, so there is no hurry to use them all up at once.

Although somewhat hard for initial consumers to identify with the idea of spending money to see the current price of an auction item, it is clear why this is an incredibly impressive site.  Savings up to the extent of 60% are regular, and frequent savings are more than 90%.  Spending 25 cents to save 25 dollars is an incredible saving. Still not convinced? Then you can check out the ‘completed auctions’ panel where customers post a testimonial about how much they ended up buying their item for. The range of products on auction varies from gift cards to electronics to the occasional automobile.

People concerned about potential legal issues with the reverse auctions concept can rest in ease. The US gaming commission had approved DubLi’s auctions as lawful and don’t consider them to be categorized as a form of gambling. The acquisitions in the auctions are legal sale transactions, and are not taxable, as winnings would.

With its user friendly interface and simple layout it is easy to use and provides a fuss-free way to online shopping. Joining is free of charge and only requires a few details to enlist. For beginners who are unsure of how to go about the site, an interactive guide is available, as well as an audio recording that explains the concept of reverse auction. If you couldn’t catch all that the audio recording was saying, then a ‘how-it-works’ guide is also available, explaining to the new user in a step-by-step manner with easy to follow diagrams.

Gaining popularity purely by word of mouth, it has acquired a massive amount of loyal shoppers from all over the world. With its bargain products and unique methods of shopping, it has revolutionized e-shopping. Watch this still young e-business as it grows ever more in the global world.

DeviantART.com – the site that speaks for itself!

The site name alone gives the unsuspecting visitor who stumbled across its pages a taste of what the site entails – art. That is, art which ‘deviates’ from the norm. While we continually revolutionize, ‘art’ has also taken changes, adapting to the new technology introduced in this digital age. Incorporating elements of this technology, we find ourselves with something entirely different. DeviantArt.com gathers all these mediums – digital art, street art, 3D-modelling, photography, film and animation and even literature – and allows all known and unknown artists from across the globe to showcase their work.

DeviantArt.com is one of the largest online art communities in the world, with over 80 million original art pieces of all mediums posted on the site. Similar to many other online communities, it is encouraged to register and join the website. For an unknown artist, this would be a wonderful way to show and promote themselves to the world. Building and having an online portfolio can possibly fast track them into the career of their choice. It also has the advantage of allowing viewers to post comments or critique the experimental artist – like they say, having a third opinion always helps. This site not only brings together artists, it also encourages those who aren’t as savvy with a paint or brush but enjoy art just has much, to join the community as well. This being a social networking site, includes features such as chat rooms and forums, so that everyone can communicate easily with each other. One particular feature I like about the site is its online tutorials on how-to for the many different types of equipment used for the sake of art. Of course, it might not have exactly what you are questioning about, but the maintainers of the site are helpful and try to answer all the questions they receive.

Another feature of the site that I like is that it also doubles as an online shopping site as well. If there is a particular photo or print that you liked and wanted to have hanging on your wall, DeviantArt.com gives you the option of buying the actual print or have the picture printed on T-shirts or bags and such, from the site. Although it is unclear how much of the profits go to the artist in question after having sold a print of their work, I still believe it is an excellent feature to have on a site to promote and affirm to the unknown artist that their work is very much appreciated.

Although the website is where artists and art enthusiasts converge and exhibit their creativity, I found the overall design of the site amusingly bland and boring. There is no interactive banner, or an overly-exciting kicker. But as boring as it is, I believe this design and colour-scheme works in its favour. Leaving the design of the site as plain as it is, actually helps not to distract or draw the viewers attention away from the respective artists work.

Overall, DeviantArt.com, with its bland yet user-friendly interface is the it place you would like to be if you wanted to express a spot of your own creativity. Users are encouraging and helpful and most of all, the site is fun. You never know when you might find something that would blow your mind away, or maybe inspire that little artisan in you to see things in a new and refreshing light.

Where creativeness gathers and manifests…DevArt!

Great picture!

www.deviantart.com - The Smoke by lucaszoltowski

Like that and want to see more of it?

Well then, head on down to www.deviantart.com – where the picture comes alive

You should all check it out!

It’s for anyone and everyone interested in art. ALL art. ANY art.

Of course this doesn’t mean your stereotypical ‘art’ pieces, the likes you might find in the Renaissance period. Although there is a chance you might stumble across something like that (I have yet to).

But you would most likely find things that you would rate as ‘cool’ or ‘groovy’ instead. Things like this:

www.deviantart.com - McDonald's - I'm loving it by pushOK_12

www.deviantart.com - McDonald's - I'm loving it by pushOK_12

Cool right? I don’t know about you, but I sure am impressed! When I see things like this I become filled with envy. Oh how I envy!! Then I begin to wonder why the Man up there made life so unfair! But, that’s life and what can you do? So to make up for what I lack, I have made myself a hobby – perving on other’s talent and creativity!! Yum…

Not only are these artists creative, but they are clever with their art, which is where I say a big ‘WOW’. How they come up with things like this are beyond me and I am left in awe.

And just to clarify, when I say ‘art’ I don’t just mean paintings and drawings. ‘Art’ at DevArt (cozy name yeah?) includes all forms and mediums. From fine art to street art, from photography to film and animation, to even literature and poetry! You sign up for a membership for free and drool away from there. You may even like to share a few of your own pieces and build a gallery for others to see. The best thing is, if someone likes your picture enough, they can even buy it! Reap the rewards!! Gratification and profit in one. Totally awesome if I don’t say so myself.

The site is easy to navigate as well with the site divided into different categories you can search through. If digital art isn’t quite your thing, then you can look at film instead, which is also sub-divided into different types of film, for instance, animation, commercials, etc.

Still not convinced?

Then let me show you a favourite of mine. It’s called ‘Love Letters’ by *worldofjeff.

Enjoy and prepare to be deviated!! :)

Evaluation of FASHION sites_assignment 1

The following is an evaluation of the story construction and writing techniques on two Australian and one international fashion site – Vogue Australia, an Australian blog site Girl with a Satchel and the international site Papierdoll Magazine.

Vogue Australia www.Vogue.com.au

The moment you enter their site, you are instantly greeted with an interactive banner that is constantly changing from headline to headline, promoting their main stories. Although there is no standfirst under the main headlines of the banner, it is instead accompanied with attractive photos of the latest fashion. The right hand panel is filled with headings like competitions and subscription options – more propaganda techniques to draw and keep the reader coming back for more. As for the main headline, it isn’t limited to just one headline. Unlike many news websites with one clearly defined story as its main piece, Vogue Australia has many stories for you to click through. Very much like the cover on its hardcopy counterpart cousin, Vogue magazine, it has many stories and many headlines waiting to be clicked on. However, unlike its cousin, with its A4 page restraints, the advantage of a website is that there really are no limitations to how much you want to show the reader.

Under the ‘latest news’ there are a few headlines each separated under a different category – fashion, beauty, people and parties. The main story of that category then has a related picture and a short standfirst under each. Clicking into the fashion link story, takes you to the story. The article itself is quite short, underneath there are a number of links to unrelated articles about other topics of interest in the fashion industry – in other words, it fails to cross reference at all.

What’s interesting about the Vogue website is that its content is solely on and about Vogue news, which in all respect is very standard as it needs to sell ‘Vogue’ to the audience. So unlike many other sites, there are no external links to other related articles of the same topic from other sites at all. It appears to avoid linking externally. Any links on the homepage are all within its own website boundaries, or there is the option of visiting its sister Vogue sites, yet even this is not hugely encouraged as the links to those sister sites are situated at the very bottom of the page.

Similar to many other sites, the kicker has many standard links to other parts of the site that have clear headings, making the site easy to navigate. What I like most about this kicker, is that there an additional kicker appears underneath the main one when you have entered a particular topic. It’s almost like a sub-kicker for the fashion part or the beauty part of the website. That particular sub-kicker includes links to solely fashion, or solely beauty related topics.

It’s clean and minimalistic color layout gives a sophisticated feel. I believe their target audiences are career minded women in their mid 20s to 40 years old. Indeed, with the inclusion of many expensive branded fashion articles, what Vogue sells and promotes are not for the average woman. Not that Vogue does not extend its reach to women who do not earn a six-figure salary. In fact, it gives these women something to want and strive for. It makes the average woman want to be these sophisticated, Carrie Bradshaw-lookalikes, who can shop and own a pair (or two) of Jimmy Choo shoes or Louis Vuitton handbag. This layout is suitable for the busy working woman who would most likely prefer the short, none fuss, straight-forward articles, that are both still informative and up to date. What I like most about this Vogue site is that it has an interactive video, Vogue TV, that allows you to stream the latest fashion shows from around the world. This gives the weary reader a chance to be entertained while simultaneously feeding them information on the latest trends in the world.

Girl with a Satchel http://girlwithasatchel.blogspot.com

It is quite apparent that this next fashion website is actually a blog, so unlike sites like Vogue.com, its articles are far more in depth, coming from the bloggers first hand insights to everything fashion related. Separated into three columns, only the middle column contains the real content of the website. The banners on either side of the actual blogs are mostly sponsors for the site, and links to magazine and book sites – all of which are what the blogger holds interest in.

This site too, has kept a simple white background like Vogue, however the differences between the two homepages are enormous. This site has a very homely feel with all the drawings on its buttons and the use of the pale pink banners and headings. The homepage is littered with sponsor ads. Further down the page, the right side column is bombarded with links to all sites imaginable – from pop culture sites, to body image sites, to even sites about God. On the other side are short quotes from TV and newspapers, documenting the many media mediums that have mentioned the Girl with a Satchel blog site.

What’s different about this site is that its main article stems from the author’s own interest. It is kept well up to date with the latest trends in fashion, referring to many different magazines at once, cross referencing extensively to the referred magazine, such as Grazia, Elle.UK, Marie Claire, etc, from its own feature story. Unlike Vogue, its feature article is already posted in its entirety on the front page – and its long. That one blog is as long as a 2000 word essay, making it more difficult for people with little time and little patience to read. Cross referecing is an effective tool to have on a website, however the way it is employed in this site hampers the effectiveness. There is already too much information to absorb from the blog article, so to have external links to the mentioned magazine becomes an unnecessary hassle for the reader. To optimize web readability, I think cutting down the content on the homepage would help dramatically. Also making the kicker stand out more should help with navigation and reduce the confusion.

Surfing though this site, I find it hard to identify who the target audience might be. I suspect there isn’t one. The content of this site is very broad and wide, so women of any age can find and relate to one thing or another. Yet because the material covered has a little bit of everything, I find the whole site to be rather random. The homepage is too messy, and there is too much ‘stuff’’ everywhere. Even though there are clear headings for every different topic, there is inevitably an information overload on just the homepage alone. Clicking into any one link does not reduce any of the ‘stuff’ that was on the homepage. You have to scroll down to find the kicker which is situated underneath all the sponsor ads, and even when found, it looks like it is just one of the many random links out of the site. But I guess for those that have enough time and patience, this site provides a most insightful look into everything imaginable. Not only is it extensive in what it covers, but it is also very informative.

Papierdoll http://www.papierdoll.net/themag

Papierdoll Magazine is a US based fashion magazine that covers every international designer and show. The homepage has a cool edgy, young feel with its black and white themed layout, and like Vogue, it too has an interactive banner, covering the latest fashion topics of the month. The banner does a superb job drawing your attention with interesting photographs to accompany the reports. Each article has a very short standfirst with a link next to it to take you to the entire story.

Right next to its heading, is a simple kicker, and if you run your cursor over some of the headings, a sub-kicker appears underneath the main one with links to various parts of the website. The site is divided into a clean two columned page, with the right hand side filled with celebrity-related fashion articles that allows the reader to twitter on. If clicked into one of these articles, a number of related links, old and new, appear next to the report. However, all links link to internal articles only, with its e-shopping and blogs as no exception.

This fashion site, out of the three, appeals to me most with its featured articles kept short and sharp, echoing its cool design layout. The whole look of the homepage and logo is hip and trendy, drawing a more art and fashion orientated crowd to the website. I don’t think there is a certain age limitation. As long as you are fashion forward and an enthusiast in fashion-art, then this site is right for you. The whole website is also very easy to navigate as well. One thing it could fix though is how slow it updates compared to other fashion sites.

And I have figured out the impossible!!! (Also: The WWW)

FINALLY figured out how to blog on this thing.

Which brings me to the point of how awesomely wonderful the web really is. If it was not for the web, I would not have been able to Google “How to blog on wordpress.com”, which meant I would not have been to figure out how to use this thing.

The best part of it all, is that there does not exist one thing you won’t be able to find on the internet. Except perhaps the size of my panties. :) Hohoo~

Recently, I came to a problem that I couldn’t find an answer to. Clicking and then flicking through a number of manuals, I gave up and rang my friend to relieve a bit of the pent up frustration, and the first thing she says to me was, “You idiot. Why don’t you just Google it?” Like totally, DUH! I had to smack myself at that point. Typing the problem into the search bar, I got a total of 75,800,000 results within 0.25 seconds. The first three links I went into were too long and had too many slabs of text to read which i had to skip. I couldn’t even be bothered to skim through the firset paragraph. But by the time I hit the fourth link, I came to a page with simple instructions, with a simple layout and found the solution my problem so easily. It even had extra links to similar problems that I might encounter in the future.

Conclusion?

I will not be able to live without the internet. If you can, then you are completely wacko…or just know my parents really really well. :)

For the wonderful world of Uni people…

This wordpress is harder to use than I thought…

I think it will take awhile for me to adjust to this!

But anyway, its done and done!! :)
